Cool coot

I am very fond of coots - I like their quarrelsome aggressive nature. Maybe it's cathartic. However, this coot is cool as a cucumber on its rock at Blackford Pond.

T and I saw three Little Grebes chicks and two adults. We think the largest of the young is now independent and were anxious for it trying to hold its own against the gulls. Its strategy was to dive if one of them came too close or showed too much interest - let's hope that works.
