Palimpsest

This old doorway in Grande Rue has so many layers - woodworm holes in the wood itself, years of coats of paint, rust on its handles and a very modern-looking padlock, the words of an old notice remaining after the paper has disintegrated. The date carved into the stone archway above is 1727. The door itself is probably not quite as old as that.
