Waymarks? In Scotland?

We were at the top of Cairn Gorm, and so perhaps to be expected. At the time, we assumed that the route would be used by people who had taken the funicular up to a few hundred metres below the summit but apparently they aren't allowed to leave the top station.
We were at the end of a fantastic route via Bynack More, where a couple of way markers would have been re-assuring.
