Scenic route
Today we drove from Bathurst to Canberra and decided to take the shortest route through Crookwell. We had a detailed list of directions which were not very helpful as they didn't have the towns listed, the reason was that there were not many towns of any size in the 300 or so kilometres we travelled. So if for example we had to turn left at Cook Street, but we weren't sure if the place we were in had a cook street as we didn't see any street signs of any use for 299 of the kilometres we travelled. This happened over and over, we had to turn back a few times, all so silly as it was a pretty direct route south. It may have been better to have given us a compass.
On the way we called to visit some friends who have a beautiful home and garden. Although it was bitterly cold they had a warm house as they have just put on a tasteful closed in verandah which catches the sun and warms the house. In the summer the sun will be high in the sky so the verandah will keep it cool. They are so clever to have thought it through and can use the space all year round. They had no heating on at all.
Tonight we are in our little van, it is going to be minus 2 so we will need the warm doona tonight. Tomorrow is sightseeing in the nation's Capital city.
