Inspired by G's Polling Station Indyrace today, I took photos of our village's two polling stations today. I'd cast my vote by 8am this morning at the other one, chatting to the yes and no chaps outside, asking if it was OK to take a couple of photos* and watching the constant stream of people, including an impressive amount of young voters kitted out in their school uniforms, trek in and out.

After work I headed along to the other polling station as this one has a greater personal significance, and looked a bit more interesting too. Our family grew up on this same road, a few steps away from this spot, and I spent many a (probably) happy day as kid in the church hall here at 'Tufty Clubs', Sunday schools, Scripture Unions, jumble sales and various parties. We've moved on from all that though (pretty sure there's no longer any Tufty Clubs or even Scripture Union meetings going on in the place nowadays) and today might well be Scotland's greatest and last opportunity to move on. Or not.

Whatever transpires, barring the 'A' boards and posters and crowds, the old church hall on Menstrie Road will look the same as it's always done tomorrow. However, everything else will most surely feel like it's changed, whichever way the vote goes. Only time and some hard knocks to come will tell if that's going to be for the better.

Tense isn't the word...

*The presiding officer in here came out and chased me saying I couldn't take photographs anywhere within the polling station grounds. And there was me thinking it'd be a nice way to document a hugely historic day for our Wee County and our Wee Country; guess there won't be any other photographs of polling stations anywhere else today if that's the case.
