An Autumn Porch

Dear Diary,

One of the ways I acknowledge the seasons is transforming my little porch. Fall flowers, pumpkins and gourds. I love sitting out there in the late afternoon sun. We had a light frost last night but most things survived. There is such a sense of sadness when the flowers finally succumb to the inevitable.

There is still lots to do in the garden although the bulbs are all planted and most of the iris divided. There is the cat mint and day lilies to do as well as the coreopsis. Then there is the finally step, to cut everything back...not my favorite garden chore.

The hops are ready to be picked. I make little sleep pillows from them but that will have to wait until Monday when I return from my retreat to St. Joseph's Abbey in Massachusetts. Time for a little inner gardening...
