Aumbry babushka
The new chapel at Cuddesdon (see tomorrow's blip) was funded in large part by the sisters of the Community of St John the Baptist, an Augustine foundation. They were lovely to meet, and my cell group and in joined in with their offices and communion, which was delightful and light and holy. They told me on my first night about their aumbry anxiety, the special box where communion is reserved. The chapel contractors made a very grand opening box, all gold inside and everything. But it couldn't be locked. So one of their old aumbries from Begbroke was fitted inside it, a box within a box. One can get into discussions on the meaning and purpose of reserving sacrament, but maybe another day...
