Phew!!

I was on holiday in the western Highlands of Scotland back in May. It was gorgeous, friendly, beautiful, spectacular and in fact very wondrous. I couldn't imagine it not being part of the UK, even though...that's enough guff about the referendum. There have been enough words already.

I am so pleased you chose to stay with us that I have posted this picture of postage stamps from part of Scotland that is already independent, Royal Mail-wise.

On the Summer Isles there is a post office that has its own authorised postage stamps. So , to send a postcard from there to London, you have to stick on one of these Summer Isles stamps which enables your message to be taken to the mainland at Achiltibuie. You also apply a UK stamp which covers the onward journey to the final destination.

There are various special issues and here is a small selection. Arent they beautiful?

And I find myself wondering what the good residents of Tanera More, which is the only inhabited Summer Isle, would have voted. From the point of view of postage they are already separate from the rest of the UK...
