Holehird Gardens - an amazing place

Holehird Gardens near Windermere are the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society. They have a beautiful walled garden, rockeries, heather beds, an alpine house and a tufa house, some national plant collections and much more. The Gardens have superb views of the Lake District mountains.

The amazing thing is that the Society employs no-one. All the work is done on a voluntary basis by members.

They are worth a visit at any time of the year. Parking and entry is free but the Society does ask for a contribution to its funds.

The blip shows a small corner of the wonderful walled garden which in mid-September is still a riot of colour. Visiting is one of the great joys of living in South Lakeland.
