The 45%...
Gutted! We woke up, turned the television on for a couple of minutes, took in the result, turned it off again and tried to get back to sleep.
Didn’t happen...
I got a message from a friend quite early this morning. He lives in the North East of England. He said that had the border been at Newcastle he probably would have voted in favour.
Now, as soon as I heard about the 11th hour extra powers promise, I really wondered how that would work as Scotland is but one country in the union and indeed there are parts of England such as the north east that may have the same issues with distance from decisions that prompted our referendum in the first place. It will be interesting to see how this side of it plays out but I really hope that an after effect of these last two days or indeed six months is that the establishment get a wake up call and work out how to better distribute decision making and benefits of being in the union to not only Scotland but also Wales, Northern Ireland and the parts of England where the Westminster politics starts to sound like a distant whisper.
