No Fishing
I thought at first that this was a boy - but I suspect the hip action and the swing in that tutu suggest it's a girl. Take a look up closer to see the beautiful lacy feathers.
With Teacherlady visiting from Melbourne, we took a trip back into Nelson today to see the sights (and the shops). We decided to come home via Nelson Lakes as we thought the snow would be very pretty. It was!
But this kotuku (white heron) was prettier. She flew over the lake then spiralled up and over the ridge. We assumed she was headed south, but then she circled back and landed on the end of the jetty.
I liked the juxtapositioning between her sharp eyed search for food and the 'no fishing for eels' sign on the jetty post. Worth mentioning is that there are dozens of those eels and the smallest of them would be a metre long and 25 cm round!
