The weir spanning the Tees at Barnard Castle was recently rebuilt to make it easier for salmon, trout and other fish to swim upriver to spawn. Environmental improvements at the mouth of the Tees paved the way for salmon in particular to return to the Tees after decades of inhibitive pollution.
