Saturday: Woodrow Wilson Square, Tirana

On the road again, this time from Kotor, down through Montenegro, to Albania, specifically Tirana.

The first part of the drive was stunning.  We followed a lovely coast road to halfway down Montenegro, and then inland across mountains to Albania.  About halfway through the journey, around Podgorica, the nature of the journey changed somewhat.  Rather than bore you with details, I will give you some selected quotes from the car journey:

'Mind those pigs in the road'
'Be careful of that pony and trap on the roundabout'
'Did you see that car wreck perched on top of that house!'
'Do you think that is his wife sitting in the wheelbarrow?'

It was quite an adventure!  We were also amazed at how many stray dogs there were at the border crossing.  I thought that they were probably cross border collies.

And finally mental note to self: when visiting foreign places, make sure Pope is not visiting.  If Pope is visiting, make sure that you haven't booked the one hotel cordoned off for security reasons, making it impossible to get near it.  It could make an already chaotic city, even more chaotic.  As you have surmised, the Pope is here tomorrow.  We have had to abandon the car somewhere on the road out of town......
