My corner!

I took this blip at an all-day practice prior to performing in an oratorio this evening, Omega and Alpha written by Martin Emslie, and raising money in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care. Very good fun it was, too. Here's my corner: tubular bells, glock, xylophone, snare drum, crash cymbals, conga, triangle, and whip. Lots of lovely feedback and admiration for being very busy - luckily most of the audience didn't know what it was supposed to sound like and therefore didn't have to forgive my errors! The three soloists were young, beautiful and incredibly talented, as was the harpist in front of me.

It was held at Haines Motor Museum. Looking around the exhibition of cars, alongside an armoured Rolls Royce (precursor of the tank) I was touched by this tribute, written in 1934 by Ataturk, to those killed at Gallipole:

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this county of ours ... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears: you sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."

Seems just as relevant today.
