Vestmannaeyjar

We did a trip to Vestmannaeyjar, because the weather forecast was very good. There was a smog of sulfur from the volcano over the whole country, but on the islands it was clear. We went to the volcano exhibition where they show all aspects of the eruption on Heimaey in 1973. I had not realized how difficult it must have been for the inhabitants to get up in the middle of the night and leave everything behind. Stories always centered on how well the evacuation went and that nobody died.

We also went to the tiny aquarium, which is more of a natural museum, but very nice.
