HALF-A-RICK

My autumn scything is half done. Half the Gatehouse paddock remains as standing grass and looks brilliant first thing with the sun behind it. However, the hay from the mown half had just been left on the ground - a poor show.

This morning, I'd had enough of this, and an old favourite (sculpture) of mine stepped forward and said 'use me'.

So, I set about making a hay rick around 'Last Look Before We Go' and now I have half a rick and half a sculpture. It may be some weeks before the rest of the paddock is cut so it's going to look like this for a little while, yet. Then the sculpture will become submerged - mummified, even.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out next Spring when I will be tempted to excavate the old elm structure.
