Cupboard
Gina took Miles down to Brighton beach with Esme today (yes, there's a Brighton here in Melbourne too...). The main aim was to give me some time without Miles in the house to get to serious work with rebuilding the nasty dark old cupboard in the corridor. We could just paint it, but it was pretty dated and we wanted one that went all the way to the ceiling. On top of that, we had an extra door left from Cate Blanchett's wardrobe that we didn't have space for in Miles' room, which would do a great job.
I've not blipped any of our renovations up to now, but there's been a lot going on in the 6 months we've been here, so it was about time I showed some proof!
Removing the old cupboard was really easy - it was much flimsier than I thought (you can see some of it in the back of this shot). I then set to work with the rebuild... it took me until they got back around 3pm, and I still haven't finished. One of the particularities of the space is that the air intake for our ducted heating gets sucked out through a huge vent in the floor under the cupboard, so I had to allow for that to still remain as well.
This was taken after lunch. I've now plasterboarded off the bottom section for the air vent - I'll need another trip to Bunnings before finishing though.
Note also the floorboards here - I ripped up the nasty tiles last week, and although the boards don't look nice now (there's still some adhesive on there), they're going to sand up beautifully!
