A Rake's Progress

As many of you will know, I am no gardener. But one of the jobs I always enjoy doing at this time of year is scarifying the lawn to rake out all the thatch that has built up through the year. I am always amazed how much there is; I only have a small garden and the lawn is only eight yards across at its widest point, yet I managed to fill a large green bin and four sacks with what I raked off. I have an electric lawn rake but whilst it's good at loosening stuff, there is no substitute for using the manual rake to get the job done properly.

I fully expect to be very stiff in the morning.
