Hope City

Went up to Dundee to visit my mum in hospital. Had a bit of a chat with her about politics and football. She seemed quite bright today, although still tired. They'll probably keep her in a few more days. Afterwards went to see my dad briefly. This is the old garage door across the road from their house. If felt like a metaphor for the city, a place I looked at with slightly different eyes after Thursday. A place where hope triumphed over fear. A little bit scruffy and overlooked, but who knows what might happen, what new use could be made of the space inside? A fresh coat of paint and it could be a mini-rehearsal space for a band, an artist's studio, premises for a start-up business. Who knows. We may have lost this battle but there is another way, and the passion and the hope will not be defeated for long.
