The love and the flow

What a day.

I'm a crusty old front-end web developer who often feels a little jaded and frustrated with the web. Sometimes the hype and promise doesn't live up to the reality of people trying to go about their daily lives using the web. Think of it; whether you're trying to find an air fare, bus information, something from your council, how to get to a course you've enrolled in, whatever, sometimes the web is a frustrating experience.

I work for a university and my role is differently shaped to that of a developer/designer in the commercial world. Today I've been invigorated and reminded of why I do what I do. I've also been reminded of what a considered and carefully constructed site blip is. We are indeed a fortunate community (thanks again, Joe and co).

I've seen and heard and from some amazing speakers today; people with passion, vision and knowledge. One speaker in particular, 'Rives' was exceptional. He is a poet from New York and creates the most amazing content using only an iphone. Some of his slides reminded me of work I see here on blip.

Within blip the discussion of what is acceptable street photography and what isn't comes up from time to time. Rives takes still shots using his iphone on the subway. His rule is that is he had to be seated first. He is then an 'eye' free to record whoever gets on. When he gets to his stop he gets off, even if he is fascinated with others' on board.

He features in an advert for Orange in Romania for internet everywhere. He also happened to be up a crane one river away at the exact time the plane safely crash landed on the Hudson River a year or so ago. As he put it, ?one river away from Pultzer Prize?.

A great day for me and I'm feeling the love and the flow :-)

Edit: I've just started day 2 of my conference and heard my name called out. I've won a new Google 'Nexus' phone.

:-)
