Shrike Takes Off!

This is a Red-backed Shrike, a bird which we had never seen before but which is fairly common in parts of eastern Europe, including Bulgaria; we've been delighted to come across quite a number of them. This is probably a female, less strikingly plumaged in the head than the male.

We did another day-long circuit from our hotel in Pomerie, south and past the city of Burgas. This bird was on a hill overlooking the city and the lake of Mandras. More (I hope) tomorrow--it's late after another exhausting day
