Bowing Out

After yesterday’s sunflower blip, I thought I’d provide another but with a very different look to it.

This field of sunflowers has attracted people throughout the summer and unfortunately, when it was at its best, we were away on holiday followed by my hospital stay and subsequent recovery. I was driven past it the other day and noticed that it looks as though the entire field of sunflowers is bowing to an unseen master and, at a time when we have a sunflower just coming into bloom in the garden, this lot are literally bowing out from their time in the sun.

While it was impressive to look at and photograph as a backdrop, there is actually nothing much in the way of a focal point to make it a good photo in its own right. Therefore to highlight the sunflower head in focus, I had to kill the colour and make it a mono shot, which removes the distraction of the bland yellow throughout the shot and focuses on the lighting.
