A terrible and yet beautiful sight

These are the last two airworthy Lancasters flying together at the Southport Airshow - the last public display that they would do together before the Canadian aircraft departs back home on Tuesday. More than 7,000 were built - these are the only two flying in the world. What a thought...

This sight moved me to tears. I was very very emotional. I was so choked up that I could not speak. This was a once in a lifetime event - they don't plan to bring the Canadian aircraft back to the UK again.

What a sight. What an awesome, terrible, beautiful sight.

For once, no-one really paid the Spitfire and Hurricane any notice - all eyes were fixed on these mighty shapes.

These were the Bringers of death and destruction - tens of thousands died in them and hundreds of thousands died because of them - but ultimately they played a huge part in bringing freedom for Europe. Are we in danger of slipping back into slavery?

We shall never forget.... lest we repeat the mistakes of the past....
