Escape From The Office - Slimbridge
A rare work day out for the both of us ..
We decided on the weekend we were going to take a trip to Gloucester to Slimbridge. I am not even sure when the last time we went, it seems like ages ago!
It was a lovely cool autumn day and there was plenty to see. Dawn had made a picnic, so we decided to do the Summer Walk as it was still open. We stopped to see what was on the Rushy. There were a few Godwits and assorted dabbling ducks. In a few short weeks the first swans will arrive along with the wintering wildfowl, and the place will be transformed.
The summer walkway takes you out to the banks of the River Avon, where we sat and had our packed lunch, it was just a little bit idyllic! Just to add to the scene, we watched a Kestrel hunting and were swooped at close quarters by a Peregrine, probably the closest I have ever been to a wild Peregrine!
From there we walked the other half of the reserve, via a pit stop for a coffee and a slice of cake.
We ended up back at the Rushy where watched the Godwit and some Greenshanks feeding in the setting sun. I rather liked the lighting on this picture of Bar Tailed Godwit.
A cracking day out, and a much needed stress buster before back to the spreadsheets and payrolls tomorrow!
