Glenfiddich distillery
In 1886 William Grant (with help from his wife, their nine children, and one stonemason) began building this distillery, and on Xmas Day 1887 the first drop of finest malt whiskey fell from the copper still. Today the original buildings are still being used and the stills are exact replicas of the original still.
Glenfiddich is a family business and the fifth generation of the Willam Grant descendants are in control of all sectors of the business. Whilst their methods are very traditional their marketing has always been very innovative, and they were the first Scotch whisky producer to travel the world to secure export markets in their early years of production.
We had a fascinating day touring the distillery, sampling some of their fine products, then enjoying a delicious lunch of scottish salmon in the cafe/bar.
