Sheriff Hutton Castle

We tried a new walk today. The start of which was Sheriff Hutton castle which was built by the powerful Neville family in the 14th century. It became the headquarters of The Council of the North and Elizabeth of York stayed here for a time.

It declined in the 16th century and the stone was used to build Sheriff Hutton House.

I have to admit this was the highlight of the walk as many of the paths had been ploughed up and the going was hard work. Poor Jet, our Labrador, was attacked by wasps. On landing they burrowed under his fur to get to his skin. It took two of us to get rid of them and it took him quite a while to recover.

Fortunately he is back to his old self this evening.
