Turnstones? Evie Beach, Orkney

I was a proud member of the YOC - Young Ornithologists Club - and it never ceases to amaze me how much knowledge of birds I squirrelled away during Saturday morning lessons from the lovely ladies who ran the local club. But I wasn't so sure what these were - having poured over a couple of bird books, I think they might be Turnstones. Happy to be corrected! They arrived on the beach as soon as our dogs left - along with a pipette of ringed plovers.

Can't believe we've entered the final days of our fortnight's holiday. It's been blissful and, of course, we're only just starting to relax and properly unwind.
