Bruges...

...by boat.

Today is our silver wedding anniversary. Spent a leisurely day exploring this beautiful city. The cobbled streets are charming and are amazingly clean and tidy. No grubby back streets here!

Bruges (it's spelt Brugge in Flemish) has a network of canals and a great way to get a feel for the city is to go by boat, hence all these shots are water, bridges and amazing buildings. We also, being tourists, hired a pony and carriage which was another way to see the sights.

The tower which you can see in the bottom left photo is the Bell tower, which gives a great view from the top, so I'm told. I have an intense dislike of towering spiralling staircases. It's situated in the large market square. Our hotel was right behind it, a great central location.

We enjoyed eating dinner (steak, yum) al fresco in a great restaurant. Our waiter was called Virgil, I'm sure he's a thunderbird. Amazing self-cleaning toilet seat in Virgils loo - you have to see it to believe it, very cool!

A very lovely day spent together and grateful to for 25 years of happy marriage.
