Brooklyn Flea - Fort Greene
I admit to having slight hipster tendencies, so a poke around Brooklyn Flea seemed appropriate for a Saturday afternoon outing.
The market buzzes with all ages and appears to be something genuinely for the locals rather than tourists. We looked through old books, badges, postcards; it was a feast of all-American memorabilia. There were a few of vendors of hand crafted items too, and we picked up some beautiful leather camera straps. Finally I am able to bin the horrible Canon neckstrap which advertises to the world what camera I have.
There was a plethora of food choices, and after much debate we opted to sit on the school steps with some grilled cheese sandwiches. People watching took over and many, many images were shot. The afternoon quickly disappeared.
We opted for a stroll back to Manhattan over the Brooklyn Bridge via Cadman Plaza Park. In the park a young boy was practising batting a baseball with his mother, and was hilariously critiquing her throwing technique every time he missed the ball. We set off for the bridge late afternoon, so the light was just perfect. Camera batteries were soon dead. My husband seems to look like quite the professional as he was inundated with requests from people to take their picture. Poor guy!
Once back at the hotel we realised we were horribly sunburned. Lesson learned, SPF50 from here on in!
