Redcar

This photo was taken from the top of the recently constructed 'vertical pier' on the sea front at Redcar, jewel of the Cleveland Riviera. In the distance you can see the steelworks by the river Tees.

Redcar has seen better days, however, there has been some rejuvenation recently.

The building with the red roof by the beach is the Regent Cinema (formerly the New Pavilion). This building has an interesting claim to fame as it was on the stage here where Larry Grayson coined the phrase "Shut that door". The story is that he used to shout "Shut that door", when a side door had been left open and a wind blew across the stage straight from the sea.
