Turkey Tails and Cramp Balls
It's the height of wild fungi season in northern California. These turkey tails and cramp balls are busy decomposing the dead branch of a bay laurel tree in Oakland, California's Huckleberry Regional Botanical Preserve. We also saw
scarlet waxy caps, coral fungi and artists' conks thriving in this park. The fungi's day will soon be over and wildflowers will replace them. The flowers are appearing; today there were hounds' tougues, pink flowering currants and manzanita flowers. It's exciting to be on the cusp of seasonal change!
