The Brown Pub and the Blue Pub, Methven

After spending four hours in the library this morning doing admin and updating Blipfoto we left Omarau and drove to Timaru. Didn't like it much there so decided to head to Alcaroa, south of Christchurch. It was going to be a long drive but we thought we could spend the day there tomorrow.

En route our tourism radio (comes with the van ... mostly irritating, terrible music with occasional useful information) mentioned a turnoff for a Lord of the Rings site so off we went. We ended up in Methven, a really small snowboarding village. The photo shows the village centre which comprised of a bottle shop (left), The Brown Pub (where the locals drank) and opposite The Blue Pub, with the blue lights where the snowboarders drank ... so that's where we ended up. Saw an instrumental technical rock band which was interesting, had a few pints then bed.
