When The Trees Say Nothing

I'm reading a book at the moment called When The Trees Say Nothing. It's a collection of Thomas Merton's writings on nature, which convey wonderfully how he finds the sacred in the natural world. I was introduced to Thomas Merton's writings just over two years ago, during a weekend retreat at Charney Manor. Since then he has quietly but insistently reappeared at regular intervals, through others who have quoted from him or via friends whom I've discovered also share a love of him and his work.

To go out to walk silently in this wood - this is a more important and significant means to understanding, at the moment, than a lot of analysis and a lot of reporting on the things "of the spirit." Thomas Merton, Learning to Love: Exploring Solitude and Freedom
