Happy Ussher Day!
James Ussher was Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland between 1625 and 1656. In his spare time, he was also Vice Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin. Ussher was a prolific scholar, who most famously published a chronology that established the time and date of the Creation - the night preceding Sunday, 23 October 4004 BC. Conveniently, this also happens to be the date of the start of the academic year at Trinity College. For me, the first day of the academic year is Ussher Day, which for many years has been one of the most important dates in my personal calendar.
This year we are exhorting students to perch & connect. I'm sure we all did a fair bit of perching and connecting in our student days. As the years go by, nothing really changes (as Ussher well knew) - even if these days the exhortations come in the form of pink neon.
