Canoe Marathon

As I made my way up to Tesco this morning, the canal was full of people. I soon realised why - the Edinburgh Canoe Marathon was being held today! After breakfast we went up along the canal to watch the racing - it was fascinating. There were various races - some for Canadian Canoes, others for racing kyacks which had only one person in them rowing forward (rather than backwards as you see in the Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race). Children as well as adults were taking part and people crowded the banks to cheer them on. Added to the sunshine it made a wonderful welcome back to Edinburgh after our holiday.
