Death on the road
After yesterday's aquatic celebration of love and lust the morning brought a sad reminder that soft mammalian bodies stand no chance on the highway.
My friend picked me up on our way to the cafe and mentioned she'd seen something dead on the road that might be a pheasant or a badger but she wasn't sure. So we went back to look and it was an otter. A good two feet long and covered with a plushy chocolate brown pelt. I've never seen one in this area myself but sightings have been recorded on the coast. Otter populations are increasing in Pembrokeshire and I dearly hope that the next one I see will be alive.
