William Wallace 1270-1305 was a Scottish hero from the Wars of Independence.
Since his death he has achieved iconic status.
On 11 September 1297 an army led by Wallace and Andrew Moray won the battle of Stirling Bridge. Although vastly outnumbered the Scottish army won the day.
Moray was a outstanding warrior and sadly died of wounds inflicted at Stirling.
Without Moray, Wallace was less of a leader. Edward 1 in response gathered his troops to Falkirk. The Battle of Falkirk was a disaster for Scotland and Wallace resigned his Guardianship of Scotland.
