The continuing warm and dry weather has been a boon for late emerging butterflies. I can always guarantee good numbers of the dogwood ivy that is flowering right now. Interestingly, on observing them feeding they use their tongues to lick the sticky nectar off what will form the fruiting bodies rather than the small yellow flowers. Getting this close is not without it's perils as the flowering ivy attracts all manner of stinging insects including angry lethargic wasps. Macro photographers beware.
