Dancing the night away...
Set the alarm for 03.10, and was at Terminal 1 at Heathrow by 04.00 am ready to catch the 6 am flight to Lisbon. As the flight took off we were treated to a beautiful London sunrise, which was a lovely start to the day...
The flight to Lisbon was delayed, so no time to relax and enjoy the delights of Lisbon airport. On the contrary, we were met at the steps of our aircraft and bussed straight to the steps of our connecting flight. Soon we were off on the next leg of our journey, heading for Accra, Ghana.
Not even allowed off the plane in Accra, so just had to sit on the tarmac and await the arrival of those joining us from Accra for the final part of the trip to Sao Tome. Then we took off and by 17.00 hours local time (one hour behind British summer time) we had landed. Passed through security, headed for our hotel and soon we were enjoying a large glass of freshly squeezed mango juice at our hotel.
That evening we enjoyed a delicious buffet meal - grilled fish, chicken, plantains and vegetables followed by an exuberant display of traditional Sao Tomean dancing. The dancing style has a distinctly Brazilian flavour to it, and is much more sensual than our sedate European shuffling.
After that it was off to a local club for some live jazz... then back to the hotel and slept like a log. A long day, but a very full one!
