Shag Colony

These shags used to nest in a couple of tall trees in the middle of Albert Town Lagoon. The trees were cut down last year, and so they have move to smaller trees that are also closer to the land. Think they are still safe.

The community, Doc, and the Te Kakano Trust have been planting the edge of the Lagoon in natives, and there is now a path halfway around it. Part of the upgrade was to remove willows from the centre, however the roosting and nesting trees could have stayed.
