Flock

When Rosie and I arrived at Ferry Meadows we were greeted with the raucous cacophony of starlings, thousands of them, feeding amongst the hawthorn scrub. Every now and then foraging parties would move off to search for new trees to plunder. This is part of one of the larger flocks, which probably contained a couple of hundred birds. If you look in large you'll see that many of them are carrying berries in their beaks. I don't think there'll be many hawthorn or dogwood berries left this year for the winter thrushes or waxwings.

Rosie is still doing well, and had her longest walk so far. She enjoyed a very leisurely paddle and bathe in the shallowest lake - I think she would have stayed all morning if I hadn't started walking back to the car. In the afternoon we visited Pete's Mum, where Rosie was fed sausage rolls and ginger cake. The steroids are really stimulating her appetite!
