bait banter
i left the house at 4:30 am, crossed the bridge onto "the island" and arrived at the waterfront of the largest lobster port in maine, still in darkness. with over 300 working lobster boats in the harbor, the pulse of diesel engines was palpable. the darkness was filled with moving red, green and white running lights, choreographed in a dance whose steps i could not know. it was beyond beautiful. i didn't know how to capture the moment in a single photograph. it seemed a video with a diesel soundtrack would be far more appropriate.
i set out today to capture an honest moment in a beautiful image (see yesterday) - or something like that. i also knew i was looking for the grit of lobstering that gets lost on a postcard. (ongoing postcard phobia!) i think i got an honest shot - during a break between moving loads of bait, the hoist operator is chatting with the sternman of the "living sea". as for the beauty - well…. it's a long shot in the dark, plenty of movement and focus issues, the works, but it's a start!
this is my journey. i'll keep you posted. feel fee to unsubscribe anytime. smile.
