Tiny
I was about to sit on a garden chair when I spotted this pair of orb web spiderlings. The one on the left is a female, and the other is possibly a male. They were about 3mm and 4mm long. I wonder if they were siblings.
Today my son and I attacked an area of my vegetable garden that had succumbed to twitch/couch grass. I had cleared the surface vegetation, and my son wrangled the electric tiller to break up the wiry roots. Then we raked and roughly sieved the soil through chicken wire. This produced a third of a big wheelie bin full of roots. You can never get the lot, but it’s great to see the bare soil instead of wilderness. I intend leaving it for a while and then repeating the process.
