A life in pictures...

Nixiwaka Yawanawá

There are never two days the same in teaching! Today I had the pleasure of meeting and listening to a real-life tribesman from the Brazilian Rainforest!! Nixiwaka (ni-shee-wa-ka) works for Survival, a charity founded to help the indigenous tribal people around the world. The children were transfixed by the mysterious man from the Yawanawá tribe in Brazil. He arrived wearing his headdress that he had made himself from feathers from yellow and red macaws and vultures. We learnt that at school, children learn how to make headresses, how to make a spear from palm tree wood and how to use a bow and arrow to catch fish. Needless to say, I think many of our pupils would be joining his school given half a chance!
