Moret sur Loing
Monday
A Backblip from my brother and sister-in-law's visit. Today we explored the historic and picturesque town of Moret sur Loing. The British painter Alfred Sisley spent the last ten years of his life here, and painted many scenes in and around the town, especially the bridge over the River Loing, the canal and the church. The town still has two of the medieval gates, the remains of the keep, and a number of historic houses.we parked across the river from the centre of the town, and walked across the bridge, past a couple of old mills, and enjoying the views of the river. We then walked along the river for a way, then back into town, where we enjoyed a savory and dessert crêpe at a little restaurant at the end of the bridge, overlooking the water. Then we explored the rest of the town, including the church. From Moret we moved on to the smaller village of Grez sur Loing, which had been home to the English composer Frederic Delius for about thirty years. My brother, Peter is a great fan of Delius' music, so was interested to see where he had lived for so many years.
