Radipole Lake

Had an afternoon on the Dorset coast with the Spotlight Kid, birdwatching, looking at the boats and enjoying the sea air. We had a couple of walks at Ferrybridge which lies between Weymouth and Portland and overlooks Chesil Beach and then stopped off at Radipole Lake on the way back to Dorchester.

The gull on the left was of particular interest to the Spotlight Kid. It resembled a greater black-backed gull except that the grey wing colour was wrong, suggesting it might be a rather rarer visiting Caspian gull, a member of the herring gull/lesser black-backed gull complex that would have been a UK 'tick' for him, but it wasn't quite right for that either.

I was intrigued by the odd pose of the cormorant and chose this shot because of the gull in flight in the centre of the picture.
