Bird habits no.1 - pigeon
First in an occasional series on bird habits! Ever since reading Simon Barnes' book How to be a Bad Birdwatcher, I've been idly noting the birds that I see on a day to basis, and learning their habits... As and when I get the opportunity, I'll post a few blips on birds spotted doing very typical things. This series is likely to feature quite a few pigeons.
If you're ever in a town centre towards the end of the day, look up and chances are you'll see pigeons settling down for the night on tiny ledges at first floor level. Hardly anyone notices them, but they're there. We get a lot in Wokingham and you can tell which are the top pigeons, as they have the best spots. This ledge outside NatWest is one of the more desirable perches.
