Hamlet

To the Royal Exchange to see Maxine Peake play Hamlet. A sparkling performance in a most enjoyable production. If I have to be critical (and, some say, I usually do) the production did not quite portray the Hamlet I see as Everyman, beset by doubt, uncertainty, guilt and fallibility. This version was forceful, dominant and assertive - perhaps a female actor pressing male characteristics a little too much. But that made it interesting and debatable. A splendid three + hours.
