Changed Times

Tonight I went to a local church hall to see some impromptu work by the drama group my youngest attends each week. The walls of the hall were decorated with hand made posters including the one that this picture is part of.

Thirty years ago I noticed people at international sporting events holding up banners with the slogan "John 3:16". How effective an evangelical recruiting tool these appearances behind the goals at World Cups were I've no idea but the slogan stuck in my mind even if the full quote never did.

Nowadays the sloganeers would be turfed out at the behest of the commercial interests who dominate such events. We're all a little poorer as a result.
