The Met

Tonight caught the Sebastiao Salgado at the International Center for Photography, and Thomas Struth and Assyria to Iberia at the Met.
I'd loved Salgado in the past and he remains an impeccable landscape photographer. His clinical approach to people is however unnerving (I like nubile subjects too, but really) and it doesn't look like he had much friendly interaction plus I found the accompanying text to be simpleminded.
Loved a couple photos of Struth - the Scottish art historian Robertson and his wife - she looks at the camera with a beautiful directness - and the team of painting restorers in Naples. Some of his photos gain currency only with interpretation, though.
And the Assyria exhibit is phenomenal and worthy of many visits. Vast spans of time and geography, storied empires, and pieces you might sell your first-born for.
